Red Queen

By: Victoria Aveyard

Hello, book friends! Thanks for tuning in for my first post! I LOVE this book, so I am really excited to tell you about it!

The Plot: Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood – people with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly Reds, destined to serve the Silver elite whose supernatural, magical abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best friend is conscripted into the army, which means he will probably die, Mare gambles everything to get back his freedom. A meeting with a mysterious stranger leads her to the royal palace itself, where, in front of the king and all his powerful nobles, she discovers a power of her own – an ability she didn’t know existed until now. And, to make matters more confusing, her blood is Red. To mask this impossibility, the king makes Mare pretend to be a long lost princess, and marry one of his sons. As Mare learns more about the Silver world, she risks everything to help the Scarlet Guard, the leaders of a Red rebellion. Mare must put aside her newly found feelings for her betrothed to aid the Scarlet Guard and bring power to Reds.

My Thoughts: I loved this book! The plot was captivating and I couldn’t put it down! I really liked the concept of the book when I first got it and Victoria Aveyard exceeded my expectations. In the world she crafts, she highlights some issues that still happened in this day and age, such as poverty and tyranny. The extreme plot twist at the end had me urging for more. This was my first book by Victoria Aveyard, (Obviously, this is the first book in her only series 🙂 ) and I immediately fell in love with her work. She really dove in deep with explaining each character and their personalities, so I really got attached to each and every character, good or evil. My favorite character in this book is Gisa Barrow, Mare’s younger sister. She is a talented, kind young lady who loves her family and would do anything for she them.

My Rating: I am going to give this book… a 5 STAR RATING! I really enjoyed it and have read or gotten most Red Queen related merchandise, even the Red Queen coloring book! The whole series consists of four books, not including novellas and side books. If you had to ask me what my favorite book is, the Red Queen series is easily in the top three.
